Due to organisational growth, we are seeking Aboriginal Support Worker Trainee to work in our Care finder program and begin a career in Aged Care.

About the Role:

The Aboriginal Support Worker Trainee – will learn about the aged care industry and focus on providing Aboriginal communities with education in aged care services and supporting people in accessing aged care services. Outcomes of connection, knowledge of services available and referrals will be achieved through outreach work within the local communities. As a Trainee role, direct support and consultation on work tasks will be provided by the Program Manager with more specialised cultural support and mentoring provided by Anglicare’s Aboriginal Cultural Advisor. The traineeship role has a career pathway into a Care Worker Aboriginal Support- Care Finder role.

Key Duties:

  • In consultation and direction from the Program Manager and Aboriginal Cultural Advisor, the role ensures engagement is undertaken with local Aboriginal Community by conducting regular outreach work with outcomes monitored by the Program Manager.
  • Direction from the Program Manager and assessment process is equitable, consistent and identifies client needs by gathering required information as per organisational procedures.
  • Ensure work tasks are undertaken as directed by the Program Manager, working within established policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Focus on program related skills by attending training.
  • In consultation and direction from the Program Manager, effective person-centred care is delivered by building linkages with key community partners, working collaboratively with relevant parties, and referring clients to other appropriate services.
  • Ensure own documentation meets organisational, legislative, and funding requirements by completing and maintaining appropriate client documentation and statistical information.
  • Contribute to an understanding and respectful work environment and work practices, by valuing all people and giving rightful consideration of people’s cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as Australia’s first people.

Skills knowledge and experience:

  • This is an identified position for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person
  • Ability and desire to engage in and complete a Certificate III, IV or Diploma in Aged care or similar
  • Computer literacy
  • Demonstrated Connection to the local Aboriginal community within the relevant area
  • Experience working in Aboriginal communities and/or with disadvantaged groups including families, parents, children and young people is desirable.
