About the role:

Anglicare has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal & Governance Team. In this role you will be delivering high quality, timely and solutions-focussed legal advice across the organisation.

Particularly, to provide specialist advice including on aged care law, retirement living law, privacy law, dispute resolution, corporate and commercial law, and/or construction law. That advice is to be provided by acting as a business unit partner with Corporate Support Units, Seniors Living, Residential Care and Community and Mission.

This is a parental leave position for 12 months.

As a Legal Counsel, you will (but not limited to):

  • Provide specialist advice on commercial transactions and other legal matters, by acting as a business unit partner with Corporate Support Unit, Seniors Living, Residential Care and Community and Mission
  • Ensure proactive advice is offered on a range of specialised and complex legal issues and collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation to devise efficient defensive strategies, in the context of Anglicare’s model litigant commitment
  • Draft and/or advise on litigation, agreements, contracts, other legal documents and policies to represent Anglicare’s legal interests
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes to legislation relevant to the organisation.  Advise on and assist in advocacy initiatives in relation to proposed legislative and regulatory developments
  • Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including external law firms.  Oversee the provision of services by external lawyers, ensuring the quality and efficiency of their work. Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, public authorities etc.), creating relationships of trust
  • Contribute to the culture of the Legal and Governance team

About You:

  • Must hold a current NSW practising certificate with tertiary qualifications in law
  • Proven experience in a law firm.  Experience both in private practice and an in-house legal team is well regarded
  • Experience in at least two of the following areas of law: aged care law, retirement village law, privacy law, corporate and commercial law property/building and construction law, conflict resolution/disputes, and/or regulatory and compliance matters and procedures
  • 3+ years post admission experience
